Ready to Work is an innovative program administered by the Florida Department of Education in partnership with the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation to identify job applicants who possess the necessary skills to be successful in Florida’s workforce. The state’s initiative enables jobseekers to attain a Florida Ready to Work credential – to demonstrate that they possess the core job skills needed to enter into Florida’s competitive and fast growing labor force. This initiative recognizes the needs of the business community and is currently implemented in several school districts throughout the State.

About Florida Ready to Work

The centerpiece of the program is the Florida Ready to Work credential – a career readiness certificate signed by the Governor that certifies that a Florida jobseeker/student has the core job skills necessary to succeed.

Measures

  • The test is timed and takes approximately one hour to complete.
  • The test is on-line, but a proctor must be present.
  • There are three assessments required to earn a credential:
  • Applied Mathematics
  • Reading for Information
  • Locating Information
  • Prior to taking the exam, students will be required to complete an on-line pre-instructional assessment to determine their level.
  • If needed, students who show weaknesses in any of the above mentioned areas will then be given targeted on-line self-paced coursework to help improve in those areas.
  • There are three certificates that can be earned:
  • Bronze – minimum score of 3 or more on all three assessments
  • Silver -    minimum score of 4 or more on all three assessments
  • Gold -     minimum score of 5 or more on all three assessments

  • Helps educators better prepare students with the core job skills demanded by today’s rapidly
    changing and competitive economy.
  • Provides jobseekers with a standard credential that certifies their workplace readiness and ability to succeed on the job.
  • Saves employers time and money by taking the guesswork out of the hiring process and by
    helping build a skilled, trainable workforce.
  • Helps attract businesses with high-wage jobs to Florida which will help grow Florida’s economy.
